SHANNON TENNIS CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Shannon Tennis Club was held i.11 Laurvig's Hall on Saturday evening. Mr. F. X. Thurston presided over a fair . gathering of members and intending members. I11 his report on last season's j activities. Mr. Thurston stated that owing to the war, membership had been small and the shortage of material prevented all but one court being top-dressed. The ; wire-netting fence around the ! courts was badlv in need of repairj and the clubhouse required atten- j tion. It was hoped that with ti j good gathering of members, the j courts and pavilion could be • brought back to pre-war shape | this season. Mr. Thurston extended thanks to j the committee, who had worked so j hard to keep the club going overj the difficult times. He also tender- 1 1 ed thanks to the retirihg secretary, ! Miss Joan Clough, who had aiways : been a willing worker for the inter- . ests of the club during her term of ! office, and stated tha'c it was unfor- : , tunate that the club was losing her j services, but as slie was now i employed out of town it was j : impossible for her to carry on as , secretary although it was hoped j that she would attend the courts i during her week-ends in Shannon.; The president' also thanked the! working bees who, throughout lastj ' season," had done much to keep the club active. It was decidcd that ■ 1 discussion with regard to repairs to ! the courts, etc., should be held overi until a committee meeting had j s been held and the courts inspected. 1 The officers eleeted for the forth- 1 K coming season resulted in Mr. Thurston being returned unoppos- . : ed to the office of president. Vicepresidents: Mrs. Creigh and Messrs. } R. Vinsen and S. L. Graham; secretary, Mrs. C. Wishart; treasurer, ^ Miss N. Moynihan; club captain, Mr. K. Thomson; vice-captain, Mr. " K. Batt; committee, Messrs. Thurston, Thomson, Batt, C. Booker and ; D. Higgie, and Mesdarnes Rosmussen, Higgie and Miss P. Small. Mr. ' J. T. Bovis was again eleeted hon- '• orary auditor. Mr. Thurston donated a free subsc.ription for the coming season; j all of those present at the meeting - 1 participated in the draw and Mrs. j Creigh proved to be the lucky 1. 1 member.
