SHANNON FIRE BRIBADE BALL

SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION HELD What is considered to be one oi the most ouisianding social event.. ; A the year was the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade's annual ball, held in ihe Drutds' Hail 011 Thursday evening. The smart uniforms oi members oi local and visiting Drigadesmen and the iovely iiocil, of the ladies added charni to the gathering. The music was supplied Dy Mr. Spelman's orchestra irom Palmerston North, and they had tc respond to repeated encores. Creait for the success of the funcLion must be given to every member of the local brigade, and aho their wives, who formed the ladies' committee and were chiefiy responsible for the supper arrangements. Visitors were present irom the Otaki, Levin and Masterton Fire Brigades. Among the wives of local brigadesmen were Mesdarnes C. Wishart, who was wearing a pretty Dlue fioral sheer frock, D. Richards (floral print), N. Retter tsalmcn sheer ), C. Tremewan (floral satint and B. Coulter (black maracaln). • The ladies among ihe visitors inciuded: Mesdarnes W. Bain (floral print 1, D. Kendnck (biack taileta t , V. Cahill ( print lace 1 . Smith (blue sheer) all of Otaki; , from Masterton came Misser n Ralph (floral silki, J. Martin (floral taffeta), Jean Fargher. Levin was represented by Miss N. Wise tpink taffeta), Miss A. Shaw ( black velvet i , Miss Shaw 1 green floral satini and Miss Augu.st ipink organdi). Miss J. Rolston f blue tafl'eta ) , Miss Rosemary Hansen, Miss N. Martin, Miss June Rakcrts tpink voile) and Miss E. Cooper (pink silk linen) were also among the visitors.
