DAUGHTER KILLED, FATHER INJURED
AUCKLAND, Aug. 25. A sovo.n-year-okl girl was killed instantly when a truek in which she was riding hit a telegraph pole on the mata highway two nnles from Thames l'osi Olli'O at 7.45 p.m. on Maturdav. Shr was Millici'Mit Lillian Aim AJlwood, daugiitor of Mr. Albert Frederick Allwo'>d, of Tv.rna. Mr. Allwood t.u.-. driviug the truek which is owned by tlm Hauraki Carryiug Company, of Turua and was travelliug towards Thames when the aecident occurred. The tete graph pole w a.s snapped by the impa*1 causing an interruption to the teleplione system soulh of Thames. Up to a late hour he had not been traced by the police. The motor car, an 8 h.p. saloon owned by Mr. N oel Gardiner, was taken from lligli Htreet on .Saturday afternoon. The "drivery wlrose id'en'tity "is ' now' Uiioun to the police, was attended by a local doctur aud placed on an amimbince which was passing through from Helensville to Auckland with a uiedical case. It was thought he was sutfering from concussion and possiblv a fractured skull. After arriving at Auckland Hospital with his two pa lients, ihe anibulance driver went insid"to report aiul canie out with a doctor. The injured man was st i 11 lying on a ,-iret'dier in the anibulance when the do.-tor interviewed liim. He refused to disclosu his name. The doctor decided he slionhl be adniitted to hos]iita! im mediatidy and then went awmy. The ambulance was then driven a few yards li.ward the mai n doors of the Jiospital and the driver went to the oflice to as certain the uai.l to which ihe man was to l.e taken. When he returned a miuute or two later, the patient has disnppeared. The other ])atient in the ambulance sl.ate.il that as soon as the drixei left. the injured man said he was going o\er the road to Imv some cigaret I "s. lie then left the st retcher. ile was fuliy clothed but left behind ua overcoat .
