STATE HOUSING IN LEVIN
LETTER TO THE MAYOR ! Confirmation of a prami'se ma:de 'by the Assistant-Director of Housing (Mr. B. R. Hammond) to provide baths and wash-hand basins for the eight State houses in Ghkmberlain Street, ahd to send 3£ tons of cement to Levin for the tfoundations of the State houses in--Lincoln Place, was received in a letter by the Mayor (Mr. H. B. Burdekin) yesterday. The letter, which was from Mr. Hammond, read as follows: — "With reference to your enquiry yesterday concerning the supply of baths to Messrs. Harvey and France for their State housing contract, I am informed by our stores nfflcer that the baths will be delivered about the end of this week. The basins fehould be procured by Messrs. Harvey and France from their merchants without any difficulty." Mr. Hammond's letter went on, to state that he had had a further discussion with Mr. Scott and also with Mr. F. T. Woollett, who is the Contractor for the State houses in Lincoln Place. Mr. Woollett had
informed him that it was essential for him to complete the cow sheds at the Kereru soldiers' settlement because the cows were now coming in and there was no provision for the milking. Mr. Woollett had said that this work would be completed in two or three weeks' time, and •that he would proceed at once with 'the foundations for his State housing contract providing the cement was available. Mr. Scott had. informed him that he would arrange for the delivery of ten tons of cement for this contract wfthin the next two weeks. ■
