NEW SELECTION BASIS

DU-NLDIN, August 21. A new basis for selection of students for adinisrtion to the second year classes at the Otago Aledical Scliool, has been adopted by the Otago University Council in eonformity with a reeommendation submitted by a special coxumittee of the Senate. For several years the regulations governing admission to the school have been under discussion, coni- •. plications;' being caused by the ' large - nuniber of appjic'ations ;and the/question of priority.for ex-seryicemen. The c'ouneil iias agreed to'accept register'ed medical students "who have completed oue year in second year classes but who have not passed the annual tenns exami nation, provided tliey are approved for re-admission by the medical faculty. After full consideration of the- whole academic record, University graduates who have passed the necessary qualifying examination will also be accppted and places reserved for applicants qualifying for degrees on results of this year's examinations but not announced when the iirst selection of candidates is made. For other applicants eacli of the four colleges will be assigned a quota based upon the total nuniber of ex-servicemen and civilians qualifying from each coilege, preference being given to ex-servicemen np to the nuniber of .'35. It will be the responsibility of each coilege to place in order of prefereuce, candidates from that coilege. Applications for entry to the school must be made to the Registrar of Otago University not later than November 15.
