WINTRY TARARUA CROSSING

The southern Tararua range was recently crossed by twelve members of the Hutt Valley Tramping Club under unpleasant condition^. Although the actual crossing only occupied three hours, the party were accom-p&nied by heavy winds and occasional hail which made going fairly difflcult at times. Over the open tops from Alpha to Kime Hutt trampers are exposed to all weathers and it was this stretch of the trip that most trouble was experienced. No snow was encountered, which is unusual for this time of the year. This factor was probably the cause of the fairly good time being made on the crossing.
