WANDERERS TAKE HONOURS

NORTH JUNIOR COMPETITION In defeating Athletic on Saturday by 16 points to nil, Wanderers juni'ors proved to be the strongest junior team in the northern division, leaving them to play Waimeha, the southern winners, for the junior championship on August 31. The game was hard and fast and at half-time the final result could have gone to either side. Early in the first speli Athletic attacked very strongly and kept Wanderers in their own territory, but as soon as the Wanderers' backs were able to function the situation was cleared and the position reversed. A scrum was set down and Sciascia, who played a niodel game, sent the ball out to the backs. Ropata, who was playing second five-eighth, kicked infield and enabled H. Winiata to pick up and dive over. Ropata converted making the score until halftime Wanderers 5, Athletic 0. In the second spell, Athletic, instead of playing to the Wanderers' back line, attempted interceptions, whsich only helped the speedy Waiiderers - backs. From a scrum the ball went to Graham, on the wing, who then inpassed to Ropata, who scored a yard in from the • corner flag. Winiata 's kick failed. Wanderers 8, Athletic 0.' The Wanderers0backs were now playing right up and from a scrum Sciascia threw the ball out to T. Winiata, who played an excellent game. Winiata made a strong run and sent the ball on to Graham, who cut in to score near the posts. Ropata converted. Wanderers 13, Athletic 0. The final try of the game was scored by Sciascia. The ball came out of a scrum and' instead of passing out, Sciascia jab-kicked, followed up quickly, caught the ball and raced over in a handy position.
