WRESTLING NOTES
MCCREADY AND KAEMPFER match at palmerston, north Private advice has been receiverl from Palmerston North stating that the Manawatu Wrestling Association has been noUfied that the Newi-^Zealand Wrestling Union has arrariged rfor Earl McCready and Hank Kaempler' to meet at Palmerston North"" oh August 24. What'of Sexton? . When 'Jim Lofidos arrives in New «• Zealand, probably before the end of the year, what will the situation be if McCready beats him? It is most likely that he will claim the world title, as he has every right to, but this may be received with concern • in the U.S.A. Many wrestling fans there consider Frank Sexton the rightful champion.
Advice received from overseas recently says: In 1939, Londos recaptured his world title from Bronco Nagurski, and for a year or more successfully defeated numerous challengers. Early in 1942' Baba Sharkey took the" title from Londos and was declared the new world champion. This result stunned the wrestling world, and during the war the workl's title was neyer-disputed. Early this season Frank Sexton hit the headlines when he defeated Sharktey for the world's title, and ' at present is the oiily undefeated champion. He has every right to the title. Sharkey is now inactive, so that Londos and Sexton are the only two disputing the title. The situation is very undecided at present, and if McCready defeats Londos it will be more so. . Adkin's Defeat' Fred Adkins failed to impress his Wellington audience in his bout with Hank Kaempfer last Thursday night. Although the Australian shov/ed a lot of strength, he continually disregarded the rules, and his disqualification was applauded j oy the audience. Blomfield Fails Earl McCready successfully ' i-etained his title against Lofty [ Blomfield in their bout at Timaru last week, the former winning by one f all. The bout was a first clas's one — a splendid exhibition of wrestling. j Newman's Plans Lou Newman, who is at present' in Australia, recently stated thatl he has the world title in view, and ! will probably be one of Londos' j opponents when he visits Australia. i More Matmen Arrive j Two more Amencan wresuers, i Herb Moeller and Babe Small, will | be appearing in the Dominion / before the month is out. Moeller, who has builV. up an/ impressive record 'of victoiries, ha;s 1 beaten such men as Deaii Detton, : Sammy Ste.in, Ray Steel and King ; Konng Cox. ; Walter Miller, his promoter, says that "Moeller is probably the best grappler on the east coast of the U.S.A. He is one of those non-stop wrestlers; tough, rugged and has a good all-round , knowledge of the game. Moeller is 5 ft. 11 in. tall, and weighs 16st. 81b. Babe Small, who is not as well known as Moeller, is a good flying tackle artist. He uses it very
eft'ectively. Small is about the same build as Moeller. Hank Kaempfer will meet Lofty Blomfield at Wellington next Thursday night.
