DEATHS IN RIOTS MOUNTING
CALCUTTA, Aug. 18. High police officials estimate the casualties in the three days' fighting at 1000 dead and 4000 injured. More than 3000 hres in the paSt 4'S hours have blazed throughout the city, and the fire brigades, since the disturbances began, have answered 120'o calls, one-third of which were made today. The mounting damage to property is already conservatively estimated at £1,500,000. In the southern part of ihe city today the police rescued 1000 nien ahd women whom shouting crowds had surrounded. Three were killed and 15 injured when the police and troops opendd fire against a large crowd, armed with shotguiis, advancing along the road.
