It is feared thAt health will be enaangered by the piles of refuse owing to the failure oi* sanitary workers to report for duty. . . The food situation continues to deteriorate. . The markets are still closOd and fruit, vegetables and Oggs are rottihg on railway platforms. Refugee i'amilies have littl'e or no food. Transport is still at a complete standstill. European businesses are closed for a public holidayj and telephone and telegraph offices are working a restricted service. j
