WANT CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTORS SET FREE.
Received Sunday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, August 18. Three hundred clergyinen joined in asking President Truman to release 1500 conscientious objectors still imprisoned and to restore full civil rights to all 6000 inen sentenced under the Selective Service Act. The ciergymen's letter said the niajority of those iinprisoned were Jehovahs Witnesses. "We feel," they said, "that this treatment of a minority group whiel" was motivated by the highest idealism. is not in keeping with the heritage oi freedom of conscience and religion which Americans eherish. " They pointed out that only thirteei conscientious objectors are now gaolec in Britain.
