MANAWATU HAVE A THREEPOINT WIN The curtain raiser on the Levii: Domain on Saturday betweer primary school teams repfesenting Horowhenua and Manawatu resulted in a three-point win foi Manawatu. The final scofe.of 14— 11 was a fair indication of the game, and both teams played good clean and open football. Rain spoilt the second half of the match, and any back movements* attempted usually resulted in the fumbling of the greasy ball. Neil, the Horowhenua half, played an excellent game and was instrumenlal in all of the home side's scoring movements. The most outstanding player for Manawatu was Tiy, a Dhinese boy, who used his speed ,o advantage. The teams were as follows •

Manawatu ( Green): Sinclair. Tiy, Lawton. Piper, G. Graham, Bryant, Patel, McGill, Putt, Newth, Allen, Francis, Chesterfield, Bickers and M. Graham. Horowhenua IRed, Wliite and Blue): Dawson. Winiata, Snowden, Eru, Parata, Ffiller, Neil, Harwood. Netten, Barnes, Roebuck, Gray, Fox, Trotter and Falconer. Horowhenua kicked off and forced play into Manawatu territory. After some hard play Green took the ball back to Horowhenua's line and Chesterfield kicked out of a ruck and dived over after five minutes of play. Tiy's kick failed, making it Manawatu 3, Horowhenua 0. Following the kick-off Manawatu gained possession and immediateiy forced play to the Horowhenua line, where several Green players

; dived for the ball, but a lfttle toc L iate. Horowhenua then forced the ■ pace. Eru picked the ball up aiter ; a bad kick and raced through to . touch down in a handy position. . Dawson converted with an easy kick and brought his team into the lead. Hofowhenua 5, Manawatu 3. Manawatu. were hooking the ball and getting it straight out to the baeks, who handed on to Tiy, and he made some- very determined runs. A light drlzzle had set in, making the ball hard to handle, and consequently the game became a llttle ragged. A scrum was set down two yards from the Horowhenua line and on receiving the ball, Patel, the Manawatu half, nipped around the side of the packs and dived ovef. The kick failed, bringing the score to Manawatu 6, Horowhefiua 5. Manawatu came back straight away and Francis scored well out. Tiy's attempt fell a little short. Manawatu 9, Horowhenua 5. Half-time came soon after and brought a little relief to both teams, who had been playing extremely hard football. Horowhenua made a determined effort in the openrng phases of the second half, but Gfeen soon pushed them back and Lawton kicked through, followed up quickly and scored. G. Graham's kick brought the score to Manawatu 14, Horowhenua 5. Very ragged play followed, with Ifofowhenua playing right on the Manawatu lihe, At last Fox snapped up the ball and went over well out. Dawson's kick failed. Manawatu 14, Horowhenua 8. Soon after the kick-off, Eru, with two Manawatu boys, dived for the ball as it went over the line. Efu £ot there in the nick of time to score. the final try of the match. Dawson's kick fell short, making the score Manawatu 14, Horowhenua 11. Mi*. H. Klngsbefer was the referee.
