DISLIKES FANS' PLAUDITS
Like thousands of other exservicemen, Douglas FFairbanks is tired of working for other people. He wants to be his own boss. Out of the Navy, he has attained his "film star's paradise." He said: "I dislike and I no longer need the adulation of film fans. I want to act only when I wish and when J. find a story I like.'"4 He has formed his own producing unit with Clarence Erickson. His first venture on a profit-shar-ing basis is with cartoonist Milton Caniff. They intend to bring the strip, "Terry and the Pirates" to the screen. His last venture with a major company is "Sinbad the Sailor," for R.K.O. He plays the lead. He said: "I liked the story, and I had the experience of acting as assistantproducer — without pay."
