ANZAC DAY SERVICES
Sir, — I have read with interest "Returned Soldier's" letter' in Monday's "Chronicle" and also that of Mr. J. S. Moir on Wednesday. Both are to be commended for ,their interest in our future welfarC and for their efforts to wake us up to. a sense of responsibility regaraing Anzac Day services and the banning of the Bible and prayers. Surely, Sir, those responsible for the arranging of Anzac Day services are not so weak kneed as to let a small section of the community influence them in eliminating the vreligious side of these gatherings. Further, I note that our worthy Mayor. (Mr. H. B. Burdekin), in a reference to the current controversy about ' the form of Anzac Day services, which appeared in your journal on August 9, a hint is given that Anzac Day would soon be embodied in an amending Act, etc. I take it that he is referring to Government legislation. Should this be so, no doubt every effort will be made to nullify the religious aspect of the service. I trust the Levin R.S.A. and the people of the district will back up His Majesty the King and Franklin D. Roosevelt in their commendation of the reading of the Bible, and retain the liberty we enjoy. Yours etc., "HOME GUARD." Levin, Aug. 16.
