TEARFUL SCENES AS DUTCH LEAVE

WELLINGTON, August 13. There were tearful scenes when the Dutch vessel Tasman sailed from Wellington this afternoon with the last of the evacuees from the Netherlands East Tndies. Several last minute withdrawals reduced the number of foriper inmates of Kolonie Miramar and Kamp Oranje, who departed in the vessel, to about 300 persons. "I am leaving my heart in New Zealand," said one young Dutch girl who had beeome engaged to a New Zealander during her stay here, "but I am eoming back to regain it, " Among the crowd on the wharf was also a N,ew Zealand girl employed in the Netherlands Consulate-general, Wellington, who was farewelling her fiance, a young Dutch official, who is returning to reconstruetion work in the Indies. Also on board were tliree newly born babies. Several liundred people lined the wharf and gave tliree eheers for the departing visitors. The Consul-General, Dr. Jonkheer Van • Panliuj'S, who was among the members of the Dutch eommuuity present to farewell their compatriots, again expressed appreciation of New Zealand 's hospitality to the evacuees.
