Bramble Bong was bouglit as a yearling for 21U guineas and is an eigkt-year-oJd bay gelding by Hunting Bong from Prickies, a Stonyhurst-bred mare by Panmure from Bramblotye, by Treadmill. Priekies won the Chaiupagne Btakes at Riccarton for Sir George Clill'ord but did not win as a tliree-year-old, tho.ugh she was runnerup to Pride in the Oaks and was also plaeed fairly consisteiitly in her otlier races. Bramble Bong was not of much aceouut on tiio tlat, but he has cerlainly'mado good as a hurdler and nou runks with his stablemate as bcing the ouly horso to win the two promier liurdle events in the JDominion in the same year. Bramble Bong's time, 4.51, is the best sinee ihe distanee of ihe Grand National Hurdles was inereased from two miles and a half to two miles and a half and .1(50 yards in 1940. The previous record wlien the raee was run over two miles and a half was Huntique's 4.4(5 in 1934.
