DRAMA FESTIVAL
— OTAKI CIRCLE TAKE PART The four-night festival of community drama whicn was conducted by the Wellington area oranch of the British Drama ijtague concluded on Saturday night in the Town Hall Concert Chamber. Three plays were pre,iuUed. "Firc Below," by Leonard J. Hines and Frank King. pcrform•d by the Peter Pan Players and produced by Percy W. Cousins, was awarded first place for the festival by the adjudicator, Madame Maria Dronke. A gripping thriller, "Firc I Below" was presented with a depthl • of fecling unusual for amateur societies. Madame Dronke- .par- ; (icularly praised the work of Lulu Tingey in her portrayal of Mrs. ' Plllis, a dementcd hag. and Moliie, Newman, as A Loud Woman, was just that. Ninety marks were awarded for this performance. Two other plays were presented on Saturday night with "Firc Below." The first was A. J. Talbot's "Bailey's Crowded Hour," played by the Otaki Womcn's Institute Drama Circlc. This fantasy was ittractivcly produced but tne manner of presentation was not polished.
