MOTHER RECEIVES LETTER

AUCKLAND, August 12. The 17-year-old Xew Zealaucler, David Reece, who arrived at Svdney on the Catspaw Jast week handcuffed to a bunk and who after liis rclease was reported to have disappeared, has written to liis mother, Mrs. L. M. Reece, of Po tatau Street, Grev Lynn, to say he has beeu given a job by an Australian business man and was going by air to Melbourne to begin work. In a Sydney newspaper cutting whieh Reece enelosed with the letter, it was reported that a businessman who 'ry fused to give liis name for publication, had given liim work at £10 a week with British (Jonsolidated liulustries, a new company registered in Melbourne. Ask ed why he had given Reece a job when he knew nothing about him, the Aus '.ra Hau said: "1 have complete l'aitli in my judgement. I do not know what job Reece will do but he has been on my payroll since 10 o'clock this morning. " This was last Thursday, after Aus tralian (lustoms and Xew Zealand (lovernment otlicials had satisfied them ielves of Reece 's identity and released liim. On Thursday he sent the follow nig cable to his mother: "Don't. worrv. Have arrived in Sydney sai'ely and don't need any money. I have landed and am free to do as T please. Please forgive me all. — Buster. " Mrs. Reece said she had received numerous inquirics about her son since he was reported to have arrived in Sydney as a stowawav and she was anxious that it should l>e known that he had not disappeared and that he had a job.
