RACE RIOT IN U.S.A.
Received Sun day, 8 p.m. NEW YOElv, August 10. A fight-between two white ex-soldiers and a negro touched off race rioting al Athens, Alabama, in whicli between 50 and .100 negroes were injured reports the Associated Press. A witnjess said old crippled negroes were among the uiany knocked ddwn and trampled by white mobs which were estimated to total 2000 men at one stage. The negroes were chased off the streets. About ten whites have been arrested and a semblance of order was restored at nightfall after law enforeement offieers from all over northern Alabama poured into Athens. A local State Guard company has been mobilised to keep i>eace.
