SKATING CONTEST ENDS IN DONNYBROOK
Received Friday, 8.25 p.m. LONDON, August 9. Billed as a speed contest between Europe and Ameriea, the roller skatiirg exhibition at London 's Harringay arena last night, developed into a donnybrook. There was punchiug, kicking and pulling each other 's liair, screaming women skaters mixed with the men, wliile nurses 011 tlie sidelines who had been thouglitfully pro'vided by the management for an eniergericy^ Yvorked overtimc treating the casualties. As the free-for-all raged among the competitors, booing spectators among the crowd of 6000, threw fruit and rubber buffers from chairs into the arena. One man paid one shilliiig for a peacli and proniptly threw it at the' referee. Dorothy Ilendriek, the blonde 23-year-old captain of the American team, was knocked out and carried unconscious from the stadium for tx-eatment. Interviewed on regaining consciousness, she said: " Tempers fray easily at this game.17
