WELLINGTON, Aug. 8. Referring to tlie Oeinent Control Regulations gazetted tonight, the Building Controller said the continued diiii cult cement supply position was being j severely felt in tlie primary production and building iudustries. Iu order to make tlie best nse of tlie available sup plies and to prosecule essential works and housing to the utmost, it had been neccssary to llniit tlie use of cement to
approved works onlv. Tlie shortage or shipping is the niain ditficulty in the cement industry and until this is overconie no improvenient in cement sup])lies can be effected. Efforts have been nmde to augment supplies by importing cement, particularly from Aus tralia, but tlie bottleneck 111 transTasman shipping prevents any relief 111 tliis conneetion. The control notice does not provide for detailed end-use control of cement by the permit systein but merely requires tliat cement shall not lie used for tlie purpose specifietl. Consequently lmilders and persons requiring cement for approved works can obtain 'their supplies tli rough their normal trade chamiels witliout making spec.ial application for release.
