TELL THEM WE HAVE NO EMPTY HOUSES
AUCKLAND, August 4. Concern that the flood of inquiries in Britain by would-be emigrants to New Zealand, might result In - people coruing to the Dominion only to find they had nowhere to live, was express-. ed by the Maypr, Mr. Allum, when eommenting on a eable message from England. He said that, uuless some higher authority did so, he fhlt -inclined to communicate with the Britisli' Press so that people could be warned not to corne to New Zealand unless they made prior arrangements for accommod'ation. "We need people badly in this country but it would be wicked to eneourage them to make the journey to New Zealand if they cannot find somewhere to live when they get. here," said Mr.. Allum. "There would be no -difiieulty about finding work for them liut we cannot house our own people and an; .influx of arrivals from overseas at' present would turn a serious position into a tragedy." * ■ ' j
