Former servieemen who backed up their ballots with bullets — and won — in a six-hofir battle that left 18 wounded and the eounty gaol at Atliens, Tenuessee, in shambles, are patrolling the: strife-torn McMinn County with rifies lo mahitahi order. The sherriff, Pat : Mans field, who was leader of the oppos- . ing faction in the polls' feud, is reported to have fled after the veterans j 1'outed him and the deputies from the gaol with demolition blasts early tliis uiorning, after beseiging them with lire from pistols, shotguns, rifies and at least oue niachinegun. Late today the ex-servicemen turned : law and order in Atliens itself baek to the Police cliief but afiirmed they were still liolding control of the county. Btate ofiicials decided against proclaiming martial law, after the battle died down. :
