NO RUGBY ON SATURDAY

GAMES CANCELLED FOR KIWIS' MATCH "That ' all competition rugby matches on August 3, be cancelled" was a motion, moved by Mr. J. D. McFarlane and*:£seconded by Mr. E. •Cook, passed unanimously at a special meeting of the management committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Football Union last evening. Mr. J, A. Zuppicich, the secretary, had written to all the clubs in the union asking for their views concerning »the cancelling of the games on August 3, as on that day the Kiwis were playing Wellington at Wellington. Tokomaru wrote saying that nothing could be gained and to continue the games, and Waimeha had also expressed the desire to play on. On the other hand Hui Mai, Athletic, Paraparaumu, Wanderers and Foxton were in favour of cancelling the games as they felt that the players who watched the Kiwis could probably learn more than if playing themselves. It was pointed out. that players from the district would seldom, if ever, have the opportunity of seeing such a world-famed combination in action. In view of the fact that all competition games were cancelled it was then decided to play a trial match between the north and south divisions to enable the selectors to choose a junior representative team. The players selected to participate are as follows: — North. — Backs: H. Ropata, M. Graham and G. Sciascia (Wanderers), H. Law and T. Cameron (Athletic), P. Barrett and W. Lay (Foxton). Forwards: J. Eccles and G. Rippin (Athletic) , N. Wilson, M. Jenkins and M. Richardson (Foxton) , R. Jones and B. Marshall (Wanderers) and D. Piggott (Shannon). Reserves.— Backs: T. Winiata (Wanderers) and J. Cafter (Foxton). Forwards: T. Hinkesman (Athletic) and B. Boyle (Foxton) . Prendeville (Athletic) is asked to be present also. South.— Backs: C. Taylor, M. Merwood and B. O'Brien (Rahui) , J.
