DAVIS CUP HISTORY
I The Davis Cup, the highlight trophy of the lawn tennis world, I was i'ounded in 1900 and is named ! after its founder, Dwight Davis, of I St. Louis, U.S.A. It is probably the j most international of all trophies. j In 1933 no fewer than 32 countries j took part in the event. Even this I year with many war casualties ; there are entries from 19 countries, ; including the tiny principality of | Monaco. Up to date there have I been 34 contests, U.S.A. winning 12, j Great Britain 9, Australia 7 and France 6. The holders before the ; present event were the Ausfcralian.^. j Until the success of Perry, Austin | and Ilughes in 1933, Great Britain j suffered a period of 20 years without a win.
