BUTTER-FAT PAY-OUT

"ENQUIRER."

Sir, — There seemed to be a tone of satisfaction on the part of the chairman at the annual meeting of the Levin Dairy Company that ohe pay-out was approximately ls 5id. per lb. Might I, as a simple student of economics, point out that with the present value of the Reserve Bank £1 this is only equivalent tp 8-kd on pre-war prices, a payment almost as low as in the depression years. Why should the dairy farmers' price be pegged while the remainder of the community receives higher and higher wages and less and still less hours of work. Yours

Levin, July 29.
