THE LATE MR. H. W. KATENE
The presence of a large and representative tribal attendance from all parts of New Zealand 'testifled to the infiuence of the iate Mr. Hari Wi Katene as a rangatira, said the Rev. Paora Temuera. in an address before the body was removed from the marae at Porirua to the family burial place at Pukerua Bay yesterday. The gifts of Mr. Katene, wno was acknowledged as an orator, had contributed much, Mr. Temuera said, to the betterment of his ; people, and the f act that so many 1 tribes had sent representatives to the tangihanga was evidence of the fact that his endeavour to c-onsolidate them had been successful. The services at the marae (from which the body was carried by fellow members of the Otaki Racing Club ) and at the graveside, were conducted by Mr. Temuera, assisted by the Rev. Hohepa Taepa. Those present included Mr. Tapihana Paikea, M.P., and representatives of the Native Department, with which Mr. Katene was associated for so many years.
