Prize winners were Mesdames R. Roberts and E. Thorne and Messrs. R. Sands and R. Buckman. J-Force Personnel Arrive A large' crowd gaihere'd at the Shannon railway station yesterday afternoon to welcome homc returning servicemen who have just completed duty with the New .'Zealand occupation forces in ■Japan. Those who arrived were L/Cpl. M. B. Moynihan, Pte. N. R. Southee, Pte. A. S. Tremewan and Pte. R. R. Veale. Firemen at Snooker On Saturday evening a number ;of brigadesmen of the Shannon Fire Brigade visited Otaki to play j a snooker tournament. The local boys were successful in winning . four of the six games played. Thei results are as follows, Shannon i players being mentioned first: — ; C. Wishart defeated F. Edmotids' 46 — 33, W. Clough defeated F. Boggs 54—48, F. Clough defeated W. ^Wright 44—39, D. Richards ! defeated C. Pilson 54 — 31, K. ! Clough lost to R. Edmonds 61—40 and W. Harding lost to J. Snowden : 45 — 42. The total points were i Shannon 280 and Otaki 260. After a most enjoyable supper thc captain of the Otaki team congratulatcd the visitors on thcir victory and thanked them for coming along. In reply, Mr. C. Wishart, : superintendenT of the Shannon : Brigade, expressed thanks on behalf of the Shannon team, for a most enjoyable evening.
