The story of "Beauliful But Broke" concerns a theatrical agent to whom Joan acts as secretary, Her principal finds himsejf uriablc to secure a scintillating orchestra for a theatrical manager. Joan undertakes to create onc anch assembles a band of supposedly young lady musicians and proceeds j to "sell" them on the basis of the. novelty of a young feminine 1 orchestra. She eff ects her sale | before actually seeing the band. The fun commenccs when the ladies of the band turn out to be eld- i erly and unattractive females — j performers of a generation ago. . However, the band does not get far i before war priorities put them off; the train in a small country town.; Here they find an empty house and : take it over for the night. From, this point until the end the com-j edy is said to be fast'and furious. There are some specialties in the; fllm which include a vaudeville act, by Willie, West and McGinty. This is an American headline act specialising in acrobatic tumbling. The popular song "Pistol Packin' ■ Mamma" is featured by Judy Clark.
