LEVIN SCHOOL

MEETING OF COMMITTEE The "monthly meeting" of the Levin School Commiuee was held last evening, when there were present Messrs. A. C. Kennerley (chairman), A. Shaw, T. Witherow, H. Bull, H. F. McClune (headmaster) , D. P. Todd and W. R. Jack. An' apology for absence was received from Mr. A. R. Ransom. The headmaster gave the following report: "The roll is 590. The attendance has suffered through the prevalence of mumps and colds. The ^rounds are in reasonably good order. The Education Board has been notified that pans in the boys' lavatory and the septic tanks require attention; thfs work is in hand. "There have been no changes in the staff during the past month. Mr. I. W. Dennison is due to take up his appointment as assistant on August 1, but so far no- communication has been received from him. Miss L. Langtry takes up her appointment on September 9. "Visitors to the school during the month included Messrs. ' G. H. Stubbs, W. O'Connor and W. Robinson, inspectors; Mr. J." J. Stevenson, agricultural instructor, and ■several soldier teachers from Wellington who came to observe the methods in operation in the school. "The annual meeting of the Horowhenua Boys' anfl Girls' Agricultural Club • was held in the school during the month and appreciation of help given to the club by the committee was expressed. "Arbor Day will be celebrated at the school at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24. Fifty native shrubs have been received per Mr. WynnHesse from the Education Board. Invitations to participate in the ceremony have been extended to His Worship the Mayor and the councillors, the Native Flora Club and the Levin Beautifying Society. Parents and others interested are cordially invited to attend." The report was received. The committee decided to "dofiate the sum of £2 2s to the Horownenua Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club.
