FAREWELL SOCIAL

FUNCTION AT REIKORANGI A very enjoyable function took place at Reikorangi pecently on the occasion of a public farewell to Mrs D. Thomas, who was leavmg the district to take up residence at Waikanae Beach. The evening was in the form of an old-time dance, held in the Reikorangi Hall, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the large crowd of young and old folk, who had gathered to pay their tributes to one who was a populai resident of the district. After an excellent supper, provided by the local people, had been partaken of, Mr. G. A. Monk, Reikorangi , made a presentation of a cheque on behalf of the people as a token of the esteem and alfection in which Mrs. Thomas was held by all. In the course of his remarks, Mr. Monk said thW Mrs. Thomas was one oi Reikorangi 's oldest piorYeers, having arrived there with her parents over flftyone years ago, and so had experienced all the ups and downs of a pioneer life. She was always hospitable and generously assisted in many ways with any function that ihad taken place in the district. Her 1 absence would be a big loss. He hoped that she would have a long, happy retirement, which she fully deserved. " He thought Mrs. Thomas would often "sneak" back to Reikorangi to look over the place and visit old friends. Judging from the applause Mr. Monk received, his expressions were heartily endorsed by all present. Mrs. Monk presented Mrs. Thomas with a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Mr. L. H. Monk, Otaki, a brother--in-law of Mrs. Thomas, on iier behalf. thanked the residents for their kindness and the wonderful evening they had given her, and for the gift they had so generously presented to her. She would always remember Reikorangi and la.ll associated with it and as Mr. G.

A. Monk had said, she would someitimes "sneak" back to survey old ^haunts and visit old friends. Projlonged applause terminated the i reply . After further dancing the evening .ended with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne." The music was provided by Mr. Hooker, of Paraparaumu, ably assisted by Mr. Upshall, of Waikanae, with the .'drums. °
