DUTCH EVACUEES LEAVING
GRATEFUL FOR N.Z. IIELP AUCKLAND, July 19. On their way back to rebuild their lives in war devastated Holland and the Netherliuids East Tndies which is still the scene of rac.ial aiul political * strife, 218 of the 400 Dutch evacuees at Oranje Camp, Remuera, will embark 011 Ihe Dutch ship Tasman tomorrow afleruoon. Immeasurably improved in health since their arrival in New Zealand earliei* this year, the evacuees cannot fully express the gratitude they i'eel for the welcome and hospitality they have received. Many have come to regard New Zealand as their honie and they are not happy to be returning to couutries which facc a turbulent and difficult. l'uture. The Tasman, which arrived at Auckland today, will leave l'or Wellington on Suitday nu rning to enibark a further 200 Dutch passengers who have been aceommodaled in southern centres, The vessel will tlieti leave for Brisbane. About 250 of the Tasman 's passengers who are. bound for Holland, will be transl'erred at Brisbane to the Volondoni. The remainder ill stay in Brisbane until they receive permission to return to Java. Mr. 11. A. Bcmman, of the Netlierlaads Consulate, Wellington, who has come to Auckland to assist. in the repal nation, said between 20 aiid T.0 ,of the evai-uges were remaiiiing in New Zealand. No obstaelek were be'mg placed in their way by Ihe Dutch or New Zealand authorit ies. They had to guarantee, however, that they could ti iid a position or that they woilld not be a charge on fhe State.
