AUCKLAND, July K. Two liouses were washed from their foundations, others were tlooded, and roads were blocked by slips as the re?u l{t of torrential rain at Onetangi, Waiheke Island, early this morning. /v i house, wliich was in the course of erec- ! tion, was moved about 13ft in a land-, slide aiul collapsed coiupletely. A secoud ho-ttse was tipped up on its front and exfensively damaged. An area of about 2b acres of ploughed land was washed out Avhile fences j and most of tlie plonghed soil were | waslied over the road. Many liouses had large quantities of silt and mud washed into their back yards. Gardens were completely washed out and scveral liouses had up to three f'eet of water iu them. Mrs. R. Voung, aged 73, left her floodeiU house at about 2 a.m. and walkcd around to her neighlionrs to war n them of the dangor. Her own liouse was tlooded with nearlv three i'eet: of Avater.
