Annual Meeting Opens PLANS FOR LONDON ASSEMBLY

WELLINGTON, JULY 18. The sixth annual meeting of the National Council of Churches in New Zealand is being held at Lower Hutt, and is presided over by the principal, Mr. A. L. Hadden, of Dunedin. The eight "constituted churches which make up* the council are represented by 26 per- , sons. The Primate of New Zealand, Dr. Campbell West Watson, Dean of Christchurch, Dean of Dunedin 'and Rev. Martin Sullivan are among the Anglican representatives. Rev. J. D. Lint, of Auckland, and Rev. J. M. McKenzie, of Wellington, represent the Presbyterians. Rev. W. A. Burley is the Methodist delegate and Commissioner. J. Evan-Smith represents the Salvation Army. The council will discuss the welfare of churches in their corporate capacity, the executive report on the year's work, and an inquiry into the question of faith and order, with a view to preparing for a national conference on these subjects, and questions concerning the World Council of Churches and the meeting of Christian international leaders in London in j August. ! It was reported that Canon T. E. James, formerly Canon of the Pro-Cathedral and now Vicar of Halifax, England, will represent New Zealand at this meeting.
