Macedonia Terrorised ARMED BANDS ATTACK TOWNS

Troops and gendarmes in Northern Greece are virtually warring to stamp out what tlie Governor of Macedonia, General Kottas, describes as "guerilla civil war" by many well-armed alleged Communist bands, 150 to 500 strong, which are terrorising towns and villages in Macedonia and attacking gendarmerie stations, says the Associ--ated Press Salonika correspondent. General Ventiris, commander of the Second Army in Macedonia, decl^'.es that the organisation of &yp.ed bands has been compieted. Tne personnel of each attacking imit is changed for each assault, while the leaders and their lieutenants remain in mountains planning the attacks. He asserts that the next phase will oe an actual declaration of war against constituted authority. The Associated Press' Athens correspondent reports that two members of one of the outlawed bands operating in Northern Greece were executed by a firing squad for supplying arms and food to Comnnmist bands. They were the first to be shot under Greece's recent emergency decrees.
