THRILLING AEROBATICS
JET AIRCRAFT OVER LEVIN People in Levin yesterday had an unexpected treat when a Gloster Meteor jet fighter appeared over the town. Attracted bv the distinctive sound of the jet motors, shop. assistants, office staffs and strollers stood in the road to watch a fiveminute display of aerobatics, which included loops, slow rolls, climbing rolls, and inverted flying. The Meteor first approached the town in a shallow dive and then climbed vertically for several thousand feet in a few seconds. The pilot made several wide circuits of the town, diving on each occasion, then climbing steeply, rolling on to his back and continuing in an inverted position for quite long peri'ods. As the Meteor rolled back to the straight, and level, a shprt vapour ■ streams • wa^^sben trailihg from the tail', giving for a'bnef instant an indicatiojn of th-e very high speed at which the aircraft was travelling. Many considered that this unannounced and unexpected display was more_ entertaining than the officidl visit of the Meteor a few months ago.
