A rccord entry of 3480 pig cureases , valued at £14,000 was on display at I Westfield Freezing Works wken the- re- j sults of the judging in the Tomoana ! porker and baeoner competition were announeed. For the last eight years j the Tomoana conipetition has been ex- 1 cliisively a baconer conipetition, but | this year it was not only extended to include porkers, but there were also .sections for members- of Young FarmersJ Clubs and returned servicemen.
The North Island baconer champion- j shjp was won by Mr. J. B. Logan; oi j Kamo, with four pedigree large wliiteo | which gained 358 jioints. The North lsland porker champion- | ship was won by Mr. F. A. Dewhurst, | of Pukekohe, witli four large whites j Vliich also gained -358 points. The North Island combined teaui j championship" was won by iir. D. -b. j ilisker, of Uruti, Taranaki, whose entry j s'ecured an aggregate of 689 -points. j Entries from Kuakura Animal lte- j scarch Station gained first plnce in tne • Waikato porker sectiou in the National j Pig Council 's North Island champion- j ship and in the Waikato District Pig 1 Council 's sectiou, but they were not j eliu'ible for nrizes.
