Furtlier details were supplied today by the Acting- Minister of Finance | (Mr. Sullivan) of the supplies New j Zealand is obtaining under the Lena- 1 Lease settlement announced this week. i The Minister said that negoliatious i were now being linalised for, the pur- j chase of mpteorological, radio, naviga- ; tional and general airlield equipnient i at an approximate cost of 750, 0UU dol- : lars. A proportion of this equipnient t was being acquired for use in Auckland j and in Fiji iu connection with New t Zealand 's respousibilities on the inter- j natioual air route and in Samoa aua t the Cook Islands for our regional air | services. The remainder was required | iu New Zealand for radio navigational aids and communication facilities for I the iuternal air services. The surplus property purcliused from j the United .States, said Mr. JSullivan. | included materiais purcliased in New ■ Zealand and in the Pacilic. It included: i Earth-moving equipnient and siiniiar'j plant, 2,274,000 dollars; hand tools tor j carpenters and engineers, 55,000 dollars; I miscellaueous textiles, 55,000 dollars; tiuiber, SG2,000 board feet, valued at 3S,000 dollars; miscellaneous steel buildings. 254,000 dollars; tyres and tnbes, 250,000 dollars; miscellaneous stores Ln New Zealand, 450,000 dollars; various items purcliased outside New Zealand, 30,000 dollars; spare parts for heavy equipuient, 99,000 dollars; -fTeight, ctc. on purchases from the Pacilic, 491,00(1 dollars; niaking the total for the purchase 4,000,000 dollars. New Zealand was also acquiring eertain civilian aircraft valued at 750,000 dollars. These items comprised the total- purchase in the recent Wasliington settlement.
