WOMEN'S SECTION OF R.S.A.
„ ANNUAL MEETING HELD The Womcn's Sectioh of the Returned Services Association held uheir iirst annual meeting in tlie Druids' Hall on Saturday evening. As the president, Mrs. C. Guerin, was abscnt 011 account of illness. Mrs. J. A. Easlon occupied Ihe chair. Tliosc prcsent were M_csdames Roberts, GrifFiths, Sell, Sinclair, Chester, Q^iinlan, Morris, Retter and Miss" Coley. Apologies for absence were' received from Mesdames ' Guerin,?" Third, Stern, Tucker, Ritchie and-K. Thomson. • A vote of sympathy was carried for Mrs; Gufirii} in'her illness, and all members wished her a speedy recovery. Mrs. J. A. Easton paid tribute to the president and officers and the fine work they had done over the past year, and also to Mrs. W. Third for the exeellent work she was doing in con'ducting the flag 500 evehings each week. In her written report, which was read to the meeting, the president, Mrs. Guerin, stated that the first year had passed quickly and all members had a great dcal to be thankful for. The section has grown in numbers throughout the year and new members were enrolling at each meeting. Mrs. Guerin went on to state that a successful street day had been held at the beginning of the year and at Christmas time a most delightful children 's party had been given for the children of returned servicemen. Rose Day, Poppy Day and Anzac Day had all come along and members had done wonderfully well in organising for these occasions. A children's fancy dress party had been held and in spite of so many other attractions being on at the time, the party was a great success. During the past year members had visited all thosc who were known to be ill, and in most cases flowers and fruit had been left with them. Mrs. Guerin thanked her officers and committees for- the wonderful co-operation and assistance they had given her during the year. She also expressed thanks to Mr. R. Quinlan for the exeellent manner in which he had helped, and stated that the women's section simply could not do without him. Mrs. Guerin also expressed thanks to Mrs. -Third and expressed sorrow > at , losing Mrs. Clayton, who had done such good work while she was with the section. In conciusion, Mrs. Guerin stated that she had been looking through a very old copy of the "Review" and had read the lines "Blow a bugle if you will, but never sound Tetreat.' " She expressed a thought that members would all know what she meant when quoting those lines. Members had to stick together and never -give in, as those who belonged to the R.S.A, were those who went overseas to fight for that right. The election of officers for the coming year resulted: — Patroness: Mrs. J. A. Easton; president: This office was field 1 over until next meeting for election; vice-presi-dents: / Mesdames Morris and Stern ; secretary-treasurer : Mrs. Quinlan; committee: All those present; 1 executive committee: Mesdames Stern, Morris, Quinlan and the president; Press correspondent, Mrs. Sell. A competition for the best bloom was won by Mrs. Sinelair, with Mrs. Quinlan second. At the completion of the meeting the section entertained the ihen members of . the R.S.A. at supper,.
