MEMBERS' FIRST MEETING The newly-fonned Waitarere Women's Institute had its first meeting recently in St. Andrew's Hall and it took the form of a social afternoon. The president (Mrs. Fletcher) welcomed a iarge number of members and friends, and after the business had been dealt with, the hostesses, Mesdames Coleman and Aldridge, served afternoon tea. A programme oi games and competitions was enjoyed by all, Mrs. Fagan winning the mystery parcel. A bring-and-buy stall raised a considerable sum for the institute. The two vicepresidents are Mrs. Renall and Miss L M. Stanley, whose names were inadvertently omitted from the previous report.
The July meeting was neia lasx Wednesday and in spite of a very wet day there was a good attendance. The meeting opened with the institute song and the aspirations. After the usual business, which included a report of the group rally committee given by Mrs, Hood, the president introduced thc Rev. A. Salmond, who-gave a most interesting talk on a travellor's impression of farm life in *-Australia, Fiji and Europe. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Salmond, who consented to give the members another talk at q future date. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses Mesdames Benning and Edwards.- • - Competitions for the month were won as follows: — Date scones: Mrs. Fagan 1, Mrs. Stanley 2, Mrs. Fletcher 3; judges, Mrs, Waugh and the Rev. Salmond. Something made from a sugar bag: Miss L. M. Stanley 1, Mesdames Ed.vards and Stanley 2 (equal) , Mrs. Baylis. 3; judges, Mesdames Stallar d and Renall. The mystery parcel was won by Miss L. M. Stanley. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
