WELLINGTON, Julv 11. In the Jlouse of liepresentatives, .Mr. C. AI. Bowden (Wgtn. West) gavc notice to ask Ihe Minister in charge of .M en tui Ilospitals vvliether his attention liad been drawn to the booklet entitled "Misery Mansion — Orini Tales of New Zealand Asyiums," by Arthur Sainsburv, and whether the Minister eould say if the ailegations it contained wero true. Mrs. G. H. Ross (Hamilton) presented a petition signed bv Arthur Mainsburv, ehairman of the Auckland Mental Hospital Reform Association, and 2092 otliers, urging the provision of Reeovery Homes under special Boards of Control. The petitioners said they were gravelv alanned at the widespread prevalence of nervous brealidowu and the total lack of suitable provision for recuperation. They advoeated the pro vision of Reeovery Homes in every populous town or suburb close to visiting friends. They considered recuperation in tliis homely setting vfould effect many early cures and save many citizens from insanity, as well as relieving the congestion in the more expensive asylums.
