A London cablq to-day reports Ihe death of Dr. T. Izod Bennett. aged 59, the New Zealander whc came to London as a young man and became one of Britain 's leading gastro-enterologigts — one of .,he wittiest and wisest of Empire doctors. Mr. J. K. McAlphine, of Craigieburn, was seiected last night "as uie Nat'ionai Party's candidate for the Selwyn electorate. Mr. McAlphine has been a shecp farmer at Craigieburn since 1926. He is a member oi the Tawera Council, the Canterbury Progress League, and the Lyttelton Harbour Board, of which he was chairman from 1943 tc 1945. He is president of the Sheffield branch of Federated Frmers
