DIRECTOR-GENEItAL VISITS' 'LEVIN The Director-Gen'eral of the Post and Telegraph Department, Mr. H. M. Patribk, paid a visit to Levin yesterday in cohnection with the instaliation of a neW teiephone' exehange board. Tnough ho oiiicial inforihatidii was obtainable to-day, it is tiiiderstood that the new boarn, which is one of the most up-to-date of its kind in the Domihion, is ready in Wellington for installation, but that the diffieulty has ' oeen the finding of snitable accammoaatioii for it. It consists of a considerable am'ount of heaVy equipment, for Which soiid fouildatiohs need to be prOvided, wiiiie there are other technical requiremehts the building in Which it is installed must mect. it is amicipated that the department's engiheers will shortly visit Levin to closely investigate ihe schehic, and it is hoped to have. the board installed in the near'future. The elxisting board is one of the oldest of the manual type in the Dominion, and for its kind has* ihe largest subscriber list. From the point of view of extending anything like a service to subscribers it is obsolete, and the staff carry out their work under very great dilficulties. The new board will meet the requirements of the town for some years to come, and will give an excellent service.
