BOXING RATINGS
Received Tuesday, 7.45 p.m. NEW YORK; July 9. The National Boxing Association, in issuing quarterly ratings, demanded "a new deal which will take boxing out of Ihe cash register class and restore it to competitive sport. ' ' The president, Mr. Abe Greene, blamed an overemphasis on the box office for the dearth of championship material in most classes. He added that New York was held largely responsible for the situation. Criticism of the Louis-Conn bout had affected boxing throughout the country. The promoters, by concentrating on the names of fighters of tlie last few years, had obscured any promising talent that might have been on the upgrade. There tvas already evidence tliat fans were beginning to beeonie se'lective. They would come out in droves only when talent deserved good patronage. The ratings are: — Ileavyweight, Louis. Light-heavvweight, Gus Lesnevich. Middleweight, Tony Zale. Welterweight, Marty Servo. Lightweight, Ike Williama. Featherweight, Willie Pep. Bantamweight, Manuql Ortiz. Flyweight, Jaclcie Pattcrson (England).
