ihakara's monthly meeting There was a good attendance of members and frien'ds at the July meeting of the Ihakara Women's !Institute, Mrs. Mark presiding. A . welcome was extended to three 1 new members, Misses Stannard 1 and Forsyth and Mrs. Stacey. I A vote of thanks was extended to Mr. Hall for making the new libirary cupboard and members were i asked to bring periodicals and ' comics, which will be sent to the Boys' Mental Home at Weraroa. ' A beautifully embroidered paper , rack was presented to the insti- : tute by Mrs. Axup for competition. A letter from the link in England, Hatfield-Hyde, contained news of a county conference at which each of the 500 delegates present was given a two pound tin of Jam for ;hr institute, a gift from the wom-
en's institutes of -Australia. Mrs. Doyle took charge of the Massey College box containing a demonstration on slipper and moccasin making. Samples of hand-made slippers were exhibited and patterns distributed. Mrs. Boddy was in charge of the bring-and-buy stall, where 25s was taken. The highlight of the afternoon was a delightful comedy sketcch by j Mesdames Anderson and Perigo.. j and both ladies responded to an, encore with elocutionary items | which were enjoyed by all. j . The following are the results of the various competitions : — Flowers: Mrs. Henderson 1, Mrs. Hibell 2, Mrs. Armstrong 3; shrub: Mrs. Elliott and' Mrs. Hall (1 equal) , Mrs. Hibell 2, Mrs. Mark 3; points: Mrs. Trotter 1, Mrs. Butt 2; vegetable: Mrs. Hudson. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by the hostesses Mesdames Butt, Horne, Hibell and Hudson.
