WOMAN KILLED INSTANTLY

ASHBURTON, July 7. When she rolled under a carriage of the north express at the Ashburton railway station 011 Saturday evening, ilrs. Aniy Elsie McLaughlin, aged (>(> years, of io Calder Street, St. Kilda, Dunedin, met almost instantaneous death. She was a passenger on the express which was moving slowly along the front of the station before stopping. Mrs. IMcLaughlin got off the carriage behind two nien, but apparently stepped in the direction opposite to the moving train, and fell on her baclc on the platform before rolling under the carriage. After the train had stoppad she was lifted from under the carriage by Constable W Kilpatriclc and 2Jr. C. Iiradley (a rail way emp'loyee), but she was dead when a doctor arrived. Alrs. McLauglilin was to liave been met at Christchurch by her married daughter, Mrs. J. Maclcersey, of Nelson, who had travelled from Nelson to meet her mother.
