TRAMPERS' OUTING
PUKEHOU AND FOREST LAKES " VISITED- ' The Le vin - W ai opehoi: .• : Tr ahipiiig Club's official monthly outing was held on Sunday to Forest Lakes and Pukehou (757 feet) in perfect weather. Sixteen members travelled to the lakes road by bus and from there walked- to . the lakes. Four lakes were visited in the morning and after an early luneh the party completed the excursion to the lakes and made a good inspection of the largest. The Forest Lakes area is a most interesting one and the party saw large numbers of ducks. The trampers then walked back to the main highway and some of the keener members climbed Pukehou from the steep western side, while the others reached tne summit by way of an easier route. Afternoon tea was then partaken of and the party took slock of the magnificent view from the ; summit of Pukehou. From this wantage point parts of the South Island, could be seen, and also Kapiti Island and the Horowhenua plains t with the surrounding ; settlements. One member's- haver5 sack was mysteriously dislodged i from the top and rolled to the botTom, the unfortunate member having to retrieve it. The member is thought to be. one of the few to iclimb Pukehou twiee in one hour. After a half -hour or so the party returned to the main highway and thence to Levin after spending a 'most enjoyable day. ! Appreciation was expressed by I members to the property owners for their willingness in allowing ■ the club to make this pleasant out- ; ing. ! . . .
