PLEASANT EVENING
IOUSEWARMING AND BIRTHDAY A very pleasant evening was spent at the newly-erected residence .of Mr. and Mrs. H. Grant. ; Raukawa . Street, on Saturday night, when a large number of local -and district residents were entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Granl to celebrate the opening of their cosy and up-to-date residence anci at the same time take part in the 21st . birthday celebration for their son, John, who leaves shortly with the J-Force for Japan. The evening proved a most enjoy - able one, spent in convivial style, when occasion was taken to ccngratulate Mr. Grant on his up-to-date residence which he built and equipped, with the help of his family. Mr. John Grant was wished many happy returns, and all testified to his popularity. He acknowledged the hearty greetings in appropriate words, and was wished bon voyage and a speedy and safe return. John carries with him the best wishes of a large circle of friends. He was the recipient of many useful presents. Among those present were mates from the camp, all of whom spoke of his popularity.
