RISE IN LEVEL OF OCEANS

Received Sunday, 7 p.m. NEW tO&K, Jitly 7. The level of the Atlantic Ocean has been rising for the last 20 years at the rate of 18 inches & deutaiy, accordiiig to the United States coast and geodetic survey. Approximately the same rise was recorded on -ihe west coast of continental' United States but on the southwestern coast of Alaska, the land appeared to he rising. Officials were unable to state whether the changed levels were the result of an increase in the quantity of water in the .oceans or the sinking of the land mass but they say they are too clearly defined to be a temporary cbange in ocean tides.
