No Clouds But Frosts The eighth successive frost of 12 degrees or more, was registered in Invercargill yesterday, the reading being 16 degrees. The heaviest frost was on Tuesday when 17 degrees were recorded and there have oeen fonr of 16' degrees. There has not been a cloud in the sky for over a week. Plaster Factories Close Two fibrous plaster factories in the Hutt Valley have closed down and others are working on a very small percentage of the normal production rate because of the shortI age of plaster supplies. The shortI age is due t© the difficulty of obI taining gypsum shipments from Austraiia and is expected to continue for a month or six weeks.

j Visitors' Lucky Day To see a large roll of notes on the ground in front of them, over which hundreds of people- had walked between the stewards' stahd and totalisator at Awapuni on Saturday afoernoon, was the astonishmg experiehce of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Stanford, of Marton. And it must have appeared that they had at lasr reached-the end of the rainbow when they picked up something like £135 mostly in £10 notes. Tne money was immediately handed to Mr. J. A. McDonnell (secretary), and it was not long before a distressed racing man from Dunedin arrived, not very hopeftilly, to report his loss. One could imagine his feelings after establishing his claim, to be handed the missing notes. Anyway he will retaxn very pleasant memories of his first visit ,o Awapuni. Unique Gathering Forming a unique gathering o'f the 2nd N.Z.E.F., some 60 highranking Army officers met in Wellington last week at tne instance of the editor-in-chief of the New Zealand war historles (Major-Gerieral Kippenberger) to consider pirbposals for the production of a nnix'orm series of Army Unit historles. The proposals were placed before Jie meeting by General Kippenoorger. Other speakers ihclUded Major-General W. G. StevenS, the last commander of the Forde, ahd the Under-Secretary of the Interhal Affairs Department- (Mr. Hebnan). Approval was giVen to the pr'oposals which will result in the publication of a unified' series of historles, recording the activities of the Army units. The conveiiers of uriit committees Were appointed. These will discuss the' proposals and forward their decisions to thb editor-in-chief.
